Meet the chef

NJ (short for nutrition junky), Yvonne aka Chef NJ began in 2003 to deliver plant-based meals. Reaching out to communities to encourage people to maintain good health. Rawk N' Vegan -RNV's motto is ' There's enough plant based food for everyone. Green Mind, Green Eating, Green Living'. 

Chef NJ has excellent knowledge about super-foods, healing, spirituality and the power of positivity that is without question the wave of our future. NJ carries this excitement over to The Rawk N' with the Vegan Newsletter site, where thought- intriguing news stories and uplifting videos focus on the sympathy, encouragement, possibilities and enthusiasm that reside in this fantastic world.

Chef NJ transitioned to a raw/vegan diet in 2003 after being told of osteoporosis problems that change her life. Doctors said NJ's bone was so weak it could break, so she began the study of  the plant-based vegan lifestyle. NJ formally studied and trained with some of the best vegan chefs in Chicago like executive chef and nutritional director Chef Zahwayah  from 'Soul Vegetarian'. Thus the journey began, a raw food internship at 'Cousins Incredible Vitality Raw Food' with Chef Memhet, the featured chef at 'Make Mine Raw'.  

Speaking lectures to  'Returning a dis-ease body back to ease' in Atlanta and Chicago with N.C.N.W., Chicago City Colleges, C.O.G.I.C., Sunrise & South Town Health Foods, the Sankofa Foundation, O.E.S. and Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc just to name a few. The results ended with Chef NJ opening a raw food art gallery and a veggie juice bar, food delivery service, vending at farmers markets, participating at Today's Black Expo, Evanston Ethic Arts Fest, Halsted Street Fest, African Festival in Washington Park, Tribute to Phil Cohran and much more.

NJ partnered with community health activist organizing raw food socials, conducting demos in grocery markets and vending at Illinois Thompson Center, W.B.D.C, Navy Pier fair & Garfield Park French Market, appeared on WVON movers & shakers, Gospel 1570AM Harold Davis show, Chicago 1st Raw Food Festival, in local newspaper and TV. Currently, NJ is lecturing and teaching classes where individuals can receive the ABC'S in plant-base food preparation and take charge of their own healthier food options.
